We are preparing for negotiations and one step to that preparation is to have a completed Strike vote so that the company knows the intentions and seriousness of the membership in getting a fair contract. Also, we need to have everyone to fill out the strike certification form and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can put our request into national to collect strike funds if the National authorizes a strike.
(ALL REQUIRED FORMS ARE ATTACHED AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS ARTICLE)
Some of the issues that the company could potentially put on the table as take away could be no pay for standby, a final freeze on the pension plan, and no job security by eliminating the contractor language to have free reign to reduce company employees in favor of contractors.
We currently have 168 union members out of 228 represented workers in the Winter Garden/Ocala Contract, this gives us a total of 68% membership. We have the potential to grow our membership to 100% by having everyone talk to the remaining 60 people (20 Winter Garden Dist and 40 Ocala Dist) which we have included a break down on the website under Centurylink Resources . It is imperative that we talk to these people, not just because we are going into negotiation but to build the membership and keep it strong as we move forward in the coming years. On Feb 21 2020 in District 7, the company, five months after changing their contract language, is in the process of laying off 335 going back 20 years!!!! Having as many signed members as possible to PRESERVE our job protection language is paramount to overall survival.
