In the beginning of April, The Company made policy changes to the I&R standby schedule to reflect that “PAID” standby would only be from Friday at Midnight until Monday Morning at 8 a.m., and Monday night until Friday morning would be covered by “UNPAID VOLUNTEERS” who would be contacted first before going through the overtime list. The stated reason by the company for this change was due to “business needs.”
Members and Stewards in the Ocala and Winter Garden districts filed grievances stating that the company had violated Article 24.07 (Standby), Article 10.10 (Overtime Process), and Article 03.01 (Management expressed rights).
Both districts held second level meetings with the union on April 20th, 2011 to discuss the violations of the contract. On April 21st, 2011, The Area Managers in the Ocala and Winter Gardens districts made the decision to revert the standby back to its original policy of “PAID” 7 days a week, effective May 3rd, 2011.
